A stronger system is moving in
Weather forecasters say conditions are expected to intensify over the next two days as a powerful low-pressure system moves across the region. This weather system is affecting a wider region too. Countries including Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain and Qatar are also expected to experience similar conditions.
Thursday is when it peaks
According to the National Centre of Meteorology, the most unstable conditions are expected from Thursday night into Friday morning. Heavy rain, strong winds and thunder are all part of the forecast, with conditions ramping up through Thursday evening before spreading across the country overnight. The UAE has already seen days of downpours, with rain falling across the country on Monday and Tuesday.
Some areas recorded exceptionally high levels. In Al Manama, Ajman, 93.3mm of rain was recorded, while Ghayathi in Abu Dhabi saw 91mm and Al Wathba recorded 88.2mm. In some spots, that’s close to a year’s worth of rain in just a short period.
Authorities are staying on alert as conditions continue to shift.
