A different kind of holy weekend

The changes come during a significant period for many communities. Christians are marking Good Friday today with Easter Sunday ahead, while others are also adjusting their routines as religious spaces pause gatherings.

While physical services are on hold, several churches have confirmed that Easter Sunday services will be available online, allowing worshippers to observe the occasion from home.

What churches have announced so far

At St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in-person visits have been paused entirely. Good Friday services scheduled for the afternoon will instead be streamed online, allowing parishioners to join remotely.

Over in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, all masses have been cancelled with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, St. Mina Coptic Orthodox Church has also suspended its Friday liturgy along with all other activities until further notice.

Church leaders have described the closures as temporary, with messages centred around safety, patience and community care during this time.

Temples and gurudwaras follow suit

Other places of worship have also announced similar measures. Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara, Hindu Temple Dubai, and Shri Krishna Temple have confirmed temporary closures until further notice, citing safety and security reasons.

Management teams across these institutions have apologised for any inconvenience and thanked devotees for their understanding and cooperation, while also sharing prayers for everyone’s safety and well-being.

Community urged to stay connected

Leaders across all faiths are encouraging residents to follow official guidelines and avoid gatherings during this period.

With services moving online and visits paused, worshippers are being urged to stay connected digitally and continue their prayers from home, as communities across Dubai adapt together.
