The BYD Ti 7 might be the most complete Chinese SUV I have driven so far. That is a substantial claim in 2026. The UAE market is packed with boxy SUVs promising luxury, technology and off-road ability at tempting prices, and that last bit is especially true with Chinese SUVs. Yet, the Ti 7 distinguishes itself through its size, comfort, plug-in hybrid powertrain and an almost comical number of features.

So, what is it like to drive, and should you buy one? Read on to find out.
What Is The BYD Ti 7?
The Ti 7 (Pronounced Tai Seven) is BYD’s first chunky, boxy SUV in the UAE. In China and several other markets, it is sold as the Fangchengbao Leopard 7, and a few other markets call it the Tai 7. For the UAE, it wears familiar BYD branding and joins a growing local line-up that already includes sedans, crossovers, electric cars and plug-in hybrids.

The Leopard 7 was an immediate success in China, recording more than 83,000 sales in its launch year. The Ti 7 is now tasked with reproducing some of that success in a market where large SUVs remain extremely popular.
Unlike traditional body-on-frame off-roaders, the Ti 7 is primarily a road-focused family SUV, with some soft-roading ability. It combines all-wheel drive, plug-in hybrid performance and several off-road driving modes with the comfort and technology expected from a modern luxury SUV.
BYD Ti 7 Price In The UAE
The BYD Ti 7 is available in two variants in the UAE. Prices start at AED 156,900 for the Design trim, while the Premium trim costs AED 169,900. Our test car was the fully equipped Ti 7 Premium. At this price, it competes with the Jetour T2 hybrid and Tank 300 while significantly undercutting SUVs like the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.
That pricing becomes even more impressive once you consider the Ti 7’s power output, plug-in hybrid system and standard equipment.

BYD Ti 7 Exterior Design
The Ti 7 certainly has presence. It measures 5,016mm in length, 1,995mm in width and 1,865mm in height, with a substantial 2,920mm wheelbase. It is larger than several of its obvious rivals, yet its styling stops it from looking unnecessarily bulky.

At the front, a gloss-black panel replaces the traditional grille. From a distance, the headlights resemble chunky old-school SUV units. Move closer, and you will notice that they are split lamps cleverly incorporated into the upright design.
Strong character lines run along the sides, while the chunky door handles feel appropriate. The small rear quarter window and large body-coloured panel at the rear may divide opinion, but I think they give the Ti 7 a recognisable identity.
Shining Bright In Emerald Green
Our test car was finished in Emerald Green, and it might be the best colour available for the Ti 7. It catches eyeballs, highlights the SUV’s muscular shape and makes it look considerably more expensive than it is.

Seven exterior colours are offered, and white is surprisingly absent from the palette. In the UAE, where white SUVs are in abundance, that is refreshing. The blacked-out 20-inch alloy wheels also look fantastic. Their design suits the Ti 7’s rugged personality, although the standard GitiContact road tyres are better suited to daily driving than serious desert work.
What Is Inside The Rear Storage Box?
At the rear, a large box is mounted on the tailgate. It resembles the spare-wheel carrier found on traditional off-roaders, but there’s no wheel inside. Instead, the box provides 32.5 litres of additional storage. It is ideal for recovery equipment, tools, small camping gear or anything you would rather not place inside the main boot and ruin the carpet
Unfortunately, the Ti 7 does not come with a spare wheel. BYD provides a tyre inflator, which is not quite as comforting when you are several kilometres away from the nearest paved road.
BYD Ti 7 Interior Quality And Design
The interior feels far more premium than the price suggests. Our test car featured grey and white upholstery, creating a bright, modern cabin that also feels solid and properly assembled.

The dashboard and centre console are impressively minimal. The centre console contains just five buttons, one dial, a rotary volume roller and a drive-mode switch. Important functions remain easily accessible without covering every available surface in shiny plastic controls.
The steering wheel looks nice and includes physical buttons for the cruise control, media system and phone functions. There are also plenty of cubbyholes, trays and storage areas throughout the cabin. BYD claims the Ti 7 contains 47 storage compartments. That is extremely useful, although you might not find all of them useful on a daily basis, and there is a fair chance you will forget where you placed half your belongings.
The Ti 7 offers a superb driving position. You sit high, the view ahead is commanding, and the generously adjustable front seat makes it easy to find a comfortable position. The large mirrors and cameras help manage the Ti 7’s considerable dimensions. Despite being almost two metres wide, it does not feel intimidating once you become familiar with it. Strangely, there is no grab handle above the driver’s door. It is a small omission, but a weird one in a large SUV.
Are The BYD Ti 7 Seats Comfortable?
The electrically adjustable front seats are among the Ti 7’s best features. Ventilation and massage functions are included, and I used both during virtually every minute spent in the car. Once you have experienced a seat massage while crawling through Dubai traffic, returning to a normal seat starts feeling like an unreasonable demand.

The front passenger can also adjust the driver’s seat electronically. It is useful when parked and potentially hilarious when discovered by a mischievous passenger. Rear-seat comfort is exceptional for an SUV costing less than AED 170,000. There is generous legroom and headroom, while the broad cabin gives three passengers enough space to sit comfortably.
Rear occupants receive ventilated seats, electrically powered backrests, multiple charging ports and a fold-down centre armrest with cup holders. The powered recline switches are cleverly integrated into the door panels rather than being hidden beside the seat, and that’s something we like.

There is also provision for installing rear entertainment screens. With its combination of space, powered adjustment and ventilation, the Ti 7’s second row feels closer to a luxury sedan than a conventional family SUV.
Rear passengers also get a dedicated touchscreen for the climate-control system. However, the front and rear fan speeds are strangely linked. Reducing the fan speed using the rear display also reduces it at the front. Passengers cannot independently choose different fan speeds for the two rows.
Different temperatures can still be selected for the left and right sides of the cabin. The system is effective, but greater independence for the rear controls would have made more sense.
BYD Ti 7 Infotainment And Technology
A 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen dominates the dashboard. It is joined by a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a massive 26-inch head-up display. The central screen contains a huge selection of vehicle settings, applications and entertainment functions. Thankfully, it is less confusing than expected. The menus become familiar quite quickly, despite the sheer number of options available.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. You also get a panoramic sunroof with an electric sunshade, a blind-spot camera display, built-in games and karaoke. Indicating left or right activates a live camera feed showing the corresponding blind spot. It is especially useful in a vehicle measuring 1,995mm wide.
The Wireless Charger Could Be Better
The two smartphone slots on the centre console look neat and hold devices securely. However, wireless charging proved rather sensitive to phone placement. The phone only charged consistently when positioned in a particular way. That ideal position was difficult to maintain while the vehicle was moving.
Thankfully, the Ti 7 also provides USB Type-A and Type-C ports. There are enough charging options throughout the cabin to bypass the wireless one.
How Good Is The BYD Ti 7 Sound System?
The Ti 7 Premium features a 14-speaker audio system. There is no prominent badge on the speakers, but the absence of a famous logo does not affect the experience. Audio quality is genuinely impressive, with good clarity and enough low-end punch to fill the large cabin.
In fact, if you’d throw on a Bose, Rockford Fosgate, or any mid-high range audio brand’s badging on it, it would be quite believable. The system also powers the Ti 7’s karaoke function. Apparently, road trips are now incomplete without an unsolicited audition for The Voice.
Does The BYD Ti 7 Have A Refrigerator?
Yes, it does. The Ti 7’s refrigerator is located inside the centre console and controlled using a prominent physical dial on the centre console. Its temperature can be lowered to -6°C. More importantly, it works extremely well. During our test, it kept ice from melting for hours while the car sat in the Dubai sun.

Many automotive refrigerators keep drinks slightly cooler than the rest of the cabin. The Ti 7 can keep ice cream properly frozen, which is arguably more useful in the UAE than having outrageous amounts of power.
BYD Ti 7 Engine, Power And Performance
The Ti 7 uses a 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid powertrain producing a combined 480hp and 630Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels. BYD claims the Ti 7 accelerates from 0–100km/h in 5.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 190km/h. Those are impressive figures for a large family SUV with genuine space for five occupants.
The powertrain feels smooth and fuss-free during everyday driving. Electric operation is quiet, and the transition between the electric motors and petrol engine is largely unnoticeable. During our test, the petrol engine started automatically when the displayed electric range dropped to approximately 8km. It then began replenishing the battery without disturbing the driving experience.
What Is Race Mode Like?
Normal, Eco, Sport and Snow modes can be selected using the toggle switch on the centre console. Sand, Mud, Mountain and Race modes are accessed through the infotainment screen. Race mode feels wonderfully unnecessary in a large family SUV. The car must be stationary, and the battery’s state of charge must be above 30% before it can be activated.

Once selected, the display turns red, dramatic animations appear, and the Ti 7 suddenly behaves as though it is preparing for a quarter mile run. The resulting launch pushes you firmly into the seat, with 0-100km/h taking approximately 5 seconds during our test.
In the normal driving modes, the Ti 7 feels quick. But Race Mode is where its 480hp finally feels properly alive. You probably will not use it often, but it is excellent when you want to show off.
What Is The BYD Ti 7 Like To Drive?
Out on the road, the Ti 7 feels exactly how a modern BYD hybrid should: smooth, quiet and refined. Dual-pane acoustic glass isolates the cabin effectively. Wind noise is also remarkably well controlled considering the upright shape, and the Ti 7 will comfortably sit at triple-digit motorway speeds all day.
The steering is nicely weighted and predictable. It avoids the vague, overly artificial response found in some large electrified SUVs. Adaptive cruise control also works effectively, making long motorway journeys easier and more relaxing.
How Good Is The DiSus Suspension?
This one thoroughly impressed us! The Ti 7 uses BYD’s DiSus intelligent damping suspension, which adjusts the damping according to the selected driving mode and road conditions. In Comfort mode, the ride is soft and relaxed. It can feel a little bouncy over undulating roads, although that is hardly unexpected from such a large and tall SUV.

Switching to Sport mode makes an immediate difference. The suspension firms up, body roll reduces, and direction changes feel sharper. The transformation makes the Ti 7 feel considerably smaller than its dimensions suggest. It is one of the most impressive parts of the driving experience.
Is The BYD Ti 7 Good Off-Road?
The Ti 7 is a road-focused SUV with credible off-road ability. It features all-wheel drive, 190mm of ground clearance, Tank Turn, Crawl Mode and dedicated Sand, Mud, Snow and Mountain modes.

We drove it on sand using the standard GitiContact road tyres, and it performed impressively in Sand mode. Traction was managed well, the power delivery remained predictable, and it handled the terrain without much drama.
If it performs this well on road-focused tyres, a Ti 7 fitted with a capable set of all-terrain tyres could become surprisingly effective on larger dunes. Maybe take on Liwa? It is still not a hardcore dune-bashing machine. For camping trips, gravel tracks, desert lakes and moderate off-road use, however, it offers more capability than most owners will regularly need.
What Is The BYD Ti 7 Electric Range?
The 26.6kWh BYD Blade Battery provides up to 80km of claimed electric driving range. That should be enough to complete many daily commutes in the UAE without using any petrol, provided the battery is charged regularly.

AC charging is supported at up to 6.6kW, while DC fast charging reaches 54kW. Vehicle-to-Load functionality is also included, allowing the Ti 7 to power camping equipment, appliances and other electrical devices directly from its battery.
What Is The BYD Ti 7’s Real-World Range?
With a full 60-litre petrol tank and a charged battery, BYD claims a combined driving range of up to 870km. During our mixed-condition test, we clocked 659 kilometres using an almost full battery, a full tank of petrol and an additional AED 100 worth of fuel. At the end of the test, the Ti 7 still displayed 229km of range.
Based on those numbers, our calculated real-world combined range was approximately 700 kilometres, which is pretty good!

That result is even more impressive because the car remained switched on for more than eight consecutive hours during one shoot day. Our test included city driving, motorways, hard acceleration, extended idling and off-road use rather than an economy-focused highway run. So, on a daily basis, it should deliver a much better range.
BYD Ti 7 Safety And ADAS
The Ti 7 comes with an extensive selection of advanced driver-assistance systems. These include adaptive cruise control and the usual collision, lane and blind-spot assistance features expected from a modern SUV.
The systems work effectively, but their greatest strength is that they can be switched off. Once disabled, they remain disabled until you return to the menus and reactivate them. That sounds like a small detail. In reality, it makes the Ti 7 far less irritating to live with than many new cars that reactivate every warning whenever they are started.

Priced between AED 156,900 and AED 169,900, the BYD Ti 7 offers exceptional value. It looks great, drives well, and provides enough room for a family without feeling unwieldy on UAE roads. Its cabin is comfortable and genuinely luxurious, while the hybrid system delivers strong performance without sacrificing refinement or range.
It could be better in a few areas, but none of these fundamentally undermine the overall package.
BYD Ti 7 Review Verdict
The BYD Ti 7 is one of the most convincing Chinese SUVs we have driven. It looks good, feels premium, performs well and offers credible off-road capability. More importantly, it feels complete. Its features have been integrated into a comfortable and easy-to-drive SUV rather than added merely to make the brochure thicker.
This is not simply a strong option because it costs less than its established rivals. The Ti 7 deserves consideration because it is a genuinely good SUV.
